Delpha Berg, English teacher at South Middle School from 1959 to 1987.  Ms. Berg spent her entire teaching career with the Grand Forks Public Schools at South Middle School teaching English in the 8th and 9th grades.  Ms. Berg is fondly remembered by her former students for her love of the English language and the importance of communication.  Former students who have written for her nomination are quoted, “Hundreds of times throughout my adult life I have referred back to 8th grade grammar and given thanks to Ms. Berg for all she taught me.”  Congratulations to Ms. Berg.

Luther Frette, English teacher at Central High School and Valley Jr. High from 1969 to 2009.  Mr. Frette is being inducted into the Teachers Hall of Fame the 1st year of his eligibility which speaks volumes of the impact that he has had on his students.  Mr. Frette is not only remembered for being a great educator but he was also a great friend and a mentor.  A former student says, “It’s been said that students won’t care about you until they know you care.  And no one cared more than Mr. Frette.”  Congratulations to Mr. Frette.

Ted Jelliff, Government and History at Central High School and Red River High School from 1963 to 1993.  Mr. Jelliff started his teaching career at Niagara, ND, moving to Grand Forks Central High School in 1963 and then to Red River High School when it opened in 1967. He taught government and North Dakota history until his retirement in 1993.  Mr. Jelliff went above and beyond what he needed to do as an educator.  His efforts enabled students to have extraordinary experiences in his classroom.   “He brought the classroom to life, he was enthusiastic about his teachings,” recalls a former student.  Mr. Jelliff was posthumously inducted into the Grand Forks Public Schools 2010 Teachers Hall of Fame.

William “Bill” Pond, Band at Central High School from 1961 to 1988. Mr. Pond considers himself a two time graduate of the Grand Forks Public Schools-- once as a student and again when he retired as a band teacher.   Mr. Pond began his teaching career in the Grand Forks Public Schools under Leo Haesle in the Instrumental Department at Central High School .  Mr. Pond’s band class is remembered for its many concerts, parades, sporting events, and overnight band trips where lifelong friendships were made.  He is also remembered for his profound influence he had on his students to continue their studies in the music education profession.  Mr. Pond was posthumously inducted into the Grand Forks Public School 2010 Teachers Hall of Fame.
